Box office revenue increased by $191 million over Q2 of 2020, a time period during which movie theaters were closed and/or operating at reduced capacity amid the pandemic, riding on the success of “F9” on June 25, just before the quarter ended. Studio revenue, which includes NBCU’s film and television studio production and distribution operations, was +8.4%. “Other” revenue from the media division was +31.1%, which Comcast attributes to “an increase in revenue from our digital properties.” Ad sales were up 32.8%, due to an increase in sporting events previously delayed by the pandemic. Distribution revenue from this segment increased 19%.

Per the company, NBCUniversal’s media division - which includes cable networks, broadcast, TV stations and streaming service Peacock - increased its revenue by 25.7% overall. Revenue from Comcast’s NBCUniversal, which includes its media, studio and theme park businesses, increased 39.2% year to year. High-speed internet and wireless lines more than offset the cord-cutting of cable-TV packages. Comcast added 294,000 new customers in total, while losing 399,000 video customers.
Net income increased 25.1%.Ĭomcast’s cable-providing arm, which is the company’s largest business, saw revenue rise 10.9%.
The company’s overall revenue for Q2 was up 20.4% from the prior year. Comcast reported adjusted EPS of 84 cents on $28.546 billion in revenue. Wall Street forecast earnings per share (EPS) of 66 cents on $27.16 billion in revenue, according to a consensus compiled by Yahoo Finance. Still, Comcast beat analysts’ estimates for how it would fare during the quarter ended June 30.
